 Rainbow, Texas, population 76, was originally referred to as the Porter school district in the late 1860s. When a post office was requested by the residents in the 1890s, the community gathered to name the town. During the meeting, a thunderstorm came, followed by a rainbow. Awestuck by its beauty, they named the town after it.
