In 1366, King Edward III of England banned his troops from bowling because it was distracting them from archery practice. This was the first written reference to bowling in history, although Egyptian bowling artifacts have been found dating back to 5200 B.C.

Today the popularity of bowling has been increased dramatically with the development of the automatic scoring system. Other than football, bowling is the most played sport by men and women.

Join the many who have benefited from the joy of bowling, and come to Lone Star Lanes to "Strike Out!".

  Chip's Tips
Weaker Starting Point, Strong Finish

In the stance, preset your wrist in a weaker position by breaking it back and placing your hand slightly on the side of the ball. The key is to maintain this position during the entire swing so that there is less hand action at the release. Whether breaking the wrist for hooking lanes or to shoot spares, many bowlers start in this weak position but don’t finish with it at the release point. Because bowlers are used to trying to “put more” on the ball, they end up strengthening the hand position as they get ready to release the ball. This defeats the purpose. Start in a weaker position, maintain it during the swing and expect to put less on the ball at release.

Chip Woessner, Lone Star Lanes Manager, is a USBC Bronze Certified Bowling Coach and has been actively coaching at Lone Star Lanes even before he began managing. His commitment to the sport and dedication to developing others' skills is obvious by the outstanding performance at 2007 Summer Tournaments.

News and Reviews
Stephenville Chamber of Commerce Welcomes New Management
The Stephenville Chamber of Commerce welcomed Chip and Theresa Woessner, new managers of Lone Star Lanes, to the business community with a Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday, August 14, 2007. Several members of the Stephenville Chamber and Ambassadors along with members of the community and avid bowlers joined to welcome the couple.

Chip spoke to the group about changes and the direction they are taking the center. He stressed his committment to a fun and clean environment that all can enjoy explaining the facility only plays Christian music and observesTobacco Free Sunday.

After a few questions and answers, the group moved outside to 'Cut the Ribbon!" This was followed by an opportunity for more greetings and questions and answers over the scrumptous snacks from the "Around the Corner Grill."
