Kempner

Kempner TX, population 1,004, occupies a plot on the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway by the Lampasas River.
Families with the name of Picket began settling the area in the early 1850s, which became known as Picket Valley. The settlement moved sites a few times, each time changing the name to suite the family of most influence. It finally became Kempner when the post office was moved to a frame building near the railroad tracks, and the community center was set.
The coming of the railroad brought more residents for Kempner; named after Harris Kempner, a Galveston merchant and director of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway.
Today Kempner hosts two annual festivals, the All-West Roundup, and Octoberfest.
