Jonesboro

[Attractions][Professional Services][Utilities]

Jonesboro TX, population 200, began as a sawmill and gristmil built by two brothers, William L. and David Jones. After the Civil War, settlers came to the area and the community was reffered to as Jones Mill. The name was changed to Jonesboro in 1877.

By the 1890s, the town had as many as 700 people, yet in 1911 the Stephenville, North and South Texas Railway bypassed Jonesboro and its population dwindled. This occured again in the 1930s, when the construction of Highway 36 drew people away.
