Past, Present and Future  Glen Rose is a charming county seat through which flows the Paluxy River. Originally, Indian tribes gathered in Glen Rose, bathing in 300 sulfur spring pools they considered medicinal. By 1920, the 100 new artesian wells spawned health spas which were built on, in and around the ancient sites, attracting speculators, investors and visitors from around the country. Glen Rose is the historical home of farmers, bootleggers, cattle and oil barons and entrepreneurs. George Barnard settled here in 1849 setting up a flour mill that took advantage of the fast flowing river for power. In 1870 the area was named Glen Rose in honor of the native wild flowers that still grow throughout the river valley. Glen Rose was designated as the county seat in 1875 with a log cabin courthouse, the second built in 1882 burning two years later and the limestone courthouse completed in 1893. By 1880, Glen Rose was thriving. Petrified wood found throughout the area became builders stone for unique homes and offices. Today, the courthouse square is home to truck farmers selling peaches and watermelons and folk art and music festivals that attract visitors nationwide. The Glen Rose area is a thriving community with a strong economic past, present and future outlook. Along with the historic Downtown shopping area, our infrastructure, facilities and incentives are tailor-made for growing industrial needs.
